  15. <p>  China's largest land port in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous
  16. Region is planning to establish six development zones in the
  17. coming few years to promote Sino-Russian border trade and
  18. economic cooperation.

  20. <p>   A total of 820 million yuan ($149.1 million) will be invested
  21. in the construction of a Sino-Russian economic cooperation zone,
  22. a barter trade zone, a comprehensive commerce and trade zone,
  23. an energy resource development zone, an export-oriented
  24. agricultural development zone and a tourism zone.

  26. <p>   Zhou Guobao, President of the Manzhouli Branch of the
  27. People's Construction Bank of China, said yesterday that his
  28. sub-branch has lent 60 million yuan ($10.91 million) for the
  29. development program.

  31. <p>   More funds will be raised, through attracting more deposits
  32. and other channels, to expedite the development scheme, Zhou
  33. affirmed. The branch is responsible for managing state
  34. investment in key capital construction projects and providing
  35. loans in the border city.
  36. </p>
  37. <p>   The Sino-Russian economic cooperation zone, with a planned
  38. development area of 5.6 square kilometers, is designed to
  39. develop light industry, textiles, food, building materials and
  40. other processing industries. Their products are targeted for
  41. export to Russia and other countries of the Commonwealth of
  42. Independent States, as well as East Europe, Zhou said.

  44. <p>   Currently, the 200,000-square meter Sino-Russian barter trade
  45. zone on the Chinese side of the Sino-Russian border is under
  46. construction and is scheduled to open for business by the end
  47. of this year, Zhou said.
  48. </p>
  49. <p>   Chinese, Russians and people from other countries and regions
  50. may then barter goods or services inside the zone. Currencies
  51. of renminbi yuan, roubles and U.S. dollars will also be
  52. permitted to flow there.

  54. <p>   The comprehensive commerce and trade zone will be based on
  55. the present urban area of Manzhouli City. New buildings and
  56. infrastructional facilities will be constructed, Zhou said.
  57. </p>
  58. <p>   The energy resource development zone in designed to initiate
  59. cooperative projects with Russian partners. In that field,
  60. proven coal reserves in the city are 10.1 billion tons, Zhou
  61. said.

  63. <p>   The export-oriented agricultural development zone will focus
  64. on setting up agricultural and livestock commodity export bases
  65. and food processing facilities, Zhou said.
